JOHN LONDEI:
John Londei's work is usually commercial photography or portraiture. In his series 'shutting up shop' he photographs small independent shops that are closing down. It took him 15 years to complete his series and this pays a tribute to an era that has evaporated.
TOM HUNTER:
Tom Hunter takes photographs of shops in Hackney, Bethnal Green and east London. He tries to capture the diversity of contemporary everyday life in the city. Hunter believes that shops are not simply just about selling things, they all - whether the tattooist, the cafe or the car dealer- represent the needs, desired and aspirations of both the body and the imagination. I really like the distance that Hunter creates in the photo from the camera and the shop owners as it creates a sense of depth and loneliness even though shops are social places.
FIRST RESPONSE:
For this task I went around Muswell Hill looking for small independent shops. I then took photographs of the shop keeps, trying to capture the environment around them.

SECOND RESPONSE:
I felt that my second response was much better because i had more confidence to ask people. My favourite photographs were the ones taken in the off licence. I like this photographs because of the vast selection of colours in the background. I really feel like the vast selection of colours brings forward the shop keeper, defining the outline of his figure.
I also like the photographs which i took in the key shop as the light reflecting off the keys in the background adds a sense of complexity. However i hoped to take photographs from different angles as they all seem bit similar.

RICHARD AVEDON
Avedon photographed people against a white backdrop, any vital clues as to the whereabouts of the encounter and the circumstances leading up to it have been surgically removed from the portrait. For his series "in the American West" Richard Avedon traveled to small town backwaters and isolated ranches in search of the true west. With him Avedon carried a white backdrop, which he pinned outside the building to create a makeshift studio.
MARCUS LYON
Somos Brasil is a multimedia book and exhibition. The project focuses on the diversity of Brazilian identity. Marcus Lyon went around Brazil over a period of 6 months, taking portraits of people standing infant of a white background. After he had photographed them he then gave them a DNA test of their blood so they could find out their heritage. Somos Brasil draws three elements of diversity: visual, spoken and genetic to cast light onto the personal, cultural and social diversity in Brazil.
'IN NORTH LONDON':
For this task I had to capture a series of portraits of people in the local area against a white paper backdrop.
